With 14 hectares to the family name, Bernard’s sons Alex and Benoit have had control over the vineyards since 1999, continuing to support the estate’s ‘hands off’ mentality, while building the family’s unmatchable reputation. The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge VV is peppery and earth-driven, with smooth red fruit flavors and integrated oak spice.
Although reds from Chassagne can often be tannic and austere, this bottle is wonderfully balanced, thanks to Alex and Benoit Bernard’s careful (and light) extractions. This peppery and earth-driven Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge is loaded with flavors of red fruit, black currants, violets, and spice. Serve slightly chilled with a variety of Burgundian-inspired dishes.
